A Day in the Life of Mary Celebre
This month’s blog post is part of our new series called A Day in the Life. Each month we will introduce you to a new member of the DPM team and give you an inside look at a typical day for them!
For our first post, we interviewed Mary Celebre our Accounting Lead at DPM to shed light on what a typical day looks like for her.
- How long have you been working at DPM?
Answer: January 2021 will be 5 years
- How did you get into your field of work?
Answer: Not sure, I literally just fell into it. I have worked in Accounting Quasimodo with most of my previous employers and it was never what I was initially hired for. I guess it just came naturally and it was instantly recognized and appreciated. I am grateful to have gained the knowledge and experience during my early years as it has helped me to get where I am today.
- Is there such thing as a typical day for you? If so what is it like?
Answer: A typical day for me at work is probably quite boring for most people, Its very repetitive. Invoicing clients, tracking receivables, paying vendors, etc. Accounting is a monthly cycle, once you complete the cycle for one month you start all over again the next month.
- What is something you enjoy most about your role?
Answer: It’s a role that requires you to be organized and precise, something I pride myself on. I am generally a very organized and methodical thinker and I enjoy keeping the financials organised for DPM.
- What are some of the most challenging aspects of your role?
Answer: “Everchanging world of software’s.” We are currently implementing a new platform for our company’s financials and working with the software company has been an interesting challenge. Always learning new things and adapting has made me fearless.
- What has been a career highlight for you?
Answer: I just recently received a promotion at DPM and I am now Accounting Lead and I hope to bring more value to the company in the upcoming years. I am very proud to work for an Engineering firm and the knowledge I have acquired in the past 5 years has been amazing for me.
- When you’re not at the office what are you in doing in your spare time?
Answer: I spend a lot of my time away from the office taking care of my family and spending time with good friends. I also have a beautiful grandson I adore, and I will jump at any opportunity to spend time with him. I do however take time for myself as well, whether it be a brisk walk with my dog, a day of shopping with my best friend or simply just reading a good book. Gardening is also a passion of mine, spending endless hours in my garden helps me unwind and relax it’s almost like meditation for me. When I have a lot of spare time, I will take on hobbies like refurbishing furniture. I love taking something old and making it new again.
- Why choose DPM? What sets it apart from other companies?
Answer: It’s a fast-growing company with lots of opportunity to grow as an individual. DPM has transparency in everything they do and keeping good communication with its employees is very important for our culture and success. Collaboration, cooperation, and collective opinions help shape our company. Inclusivity is important and treating everyone with respect and consideration is something that is valued.
- What are some of your favourite projects to work on?
Answer: As an accounting Lead I don’t necessarily work on any particular project however, keeping track of payments for high profile jobs like Finch West LRT has been a challenge but it keeps me engaged in my day to day. It’s an exciting time for DPM and as we grow I anticipate exciting things to come.
- What is something that motivates you each day?
Answer: Just simply waking up in the morning, being healthy, feeling valued for what I do and most of all having a supportive team at work and loving family supporting me.
A big thank you to Mary for sharing a day in her life with us! Hopefully, you got to know Mary and her role a little better. We are so happy to have her on our team.
