If you have the following experience:

  • Direct experience with detailed design of power systems for Ontario LDCs, both overhead and underground.
  • Direct experience with the design of municipal or private outdoor lighting systems.
  • Experience managing construction contracts, including tendering, inspection and contract administration.
  • Experience handling technical documents, including document control and processing of permits and approvals.

This experience has given you the following skills:

  • Detailed knowledge of codes and regulations governing electrical system design in Ontario for both private and LDC installations.
  • The analytical skills needed to complete detailed design of electrical projects, including the necessary calculations.
  • Strong computer skills in the software programs commonly used in an engineering office environment, including AutoCAD and/or Microstation.
  • Strong people skills to ensure effective communication with team members and clients.
  • Strong project and time management skills to be able to juggle projects.

Opportunities:

AutoCAD Designer – Entry Level

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

As an entry level AutoCAD Designer, your job will be to work with the Project Supervisor and their team on the design and CAD drawings for a variety of projects, including overhead and underground, electrical capital reconstruction projects, new underground electrical systems for residential and industrial, commercial subdivisions, roadway and area lighting. You will manage your own day-to-day workload and may be called upon to assist the project coordinators with outside agencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Design utility infrastructure systems and produce related in accordance with current utility standards and Electrical Safety Authority standards as applicable.
  • Contact municipalities, utilities, and other consultants to provide or obtain information, as required.
  • Consult Hydro and Municipalities for latest standards.
  • Prepare calculations, as required.
  • Provides project status updates on a regular basis and as required to Project Director.
  • Responsible for updating the CAD design standards and library, as needed. Duties include maintenance of electronic files, design practices and updating all staff on any changes.
  • Coordinates with Project Director on Quality Assurance and Quality Control of designs.
  • Assumes related responsibilities and projects as assigned or required.
  • Prepares and coordinates submissions to all assigned parties.
  • Communicates regularly with Utility Coordinator on project submissions and any related updates.
  • Follows up for comments with Hydro and/or Municipal parties.
  • Coordinate with Construction & Contract Coordinator and/or Project Director for take-offs and tendering of projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary 3-year Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with team members.

Senior CAD Designer

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

As a Senior CAD Designer, your job will be to work with a Project Supervisor and their team on design and CAD drawings for a variety of projects including overhead and underground, electrical capital reconstruction projects, new underground electrical systems for residential and industrial, commercial subdivisions, roadway and area lighting. You will manage your own day-to-day work load, and may be called upon to assist the project coordinators with outside agencies.

  • Complete design layouts for downtown cores, complex overhead designs, chamber
    and duct bank designs, or others as assigned with minimal supervision.
  • Execute all work in compliance with DPM standards, procedures and policies
  • Contact municipalities, LDC, and other consultants to provide or obtain information,
    as required to start design
  • Prepare calculations, as required
  • Provide project status updates on a regular basis to Project Supervisor
  • Duties include maintenance of electronic files, design practices and updating
    appropriate staff on any changes
  • Assume related responsibilities and projects as assigned or required
  • Prepares submissions to all assigned parties. Coordinate with Project Services or

Project Coordinator – Entry Level

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

As a Coordinator, your job will be to work with the Project Services Supervisor and their team, on the coordination of the project and design, including overhead and underground capital reconstruction projects, new underground systems for residential and industrial, commercial subdivisions, roadway and area lighting. You will be responsible for managing your own day-to-day work load and may be called upon to assist with coordinating other outside agencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute all work in compliance with DPM standards, procedures and policies
  • Coordinate with team members for first submissions to utilities
  • Coordinate with team members to issue construction package
  • Acquire and maintain utility contacts
  • Issue and follow up with utilities on submissions, comments, designs and revisions
  • Communicate with team members on how coordination is progressing
  • Coordination of permit requirements
  • Issue clearance requirements from utilities
  • Assume related responsibilities and projects as assigned or required
  • Proactively improve their skills and execution to be able to progress to another level
  • Accountable for their part of the project budget and schedule
