Intermediate CAD Designer

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

As an Intermediate CAD Designer, your job will be to work with a Project Supervisor and their team on design and CAD drawings for a variety of projects including overhead and underground, electrical capital reconstruction projects, new underground electrical systems for residential and industrial, commercial subdivisions, roadway and area lighting. You will manage your own day-to-day work load, and may be called upon to assist the project coordinators with outside agencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Design utility infrastructure systems and produce related drawings in accordance with current utility standards and Electrical Safety Authority standards as applicable
  • Execute all work in compliance with DPM standards, procedures and policies
  • Contact municipalities, LDC, and other consultants to provide or obtain information, as required to start design
  • Prepare calculations, as required
  • Provide project status updates on a regular basis to Project Supervisor
  • Duties include maintenance of electronic files, design practices and updating appropriate staff on any changes
  • Assume related responsibilities and projects as assigned or required
  • Prepares submissions to all assigned parties. Coordinate with Project Services or process
  • Communicate regularly with internal members on project submissions and any related updates
  • Follow up for comments with Hydro and/or Municipal parties and external team members
  • Coordinate with Project Services and/or Project Supervisor for take-offs and tendering of projects and other services
  • Coordinate project close out as required
  • Assist in training and mentoring of junior designers
  • Proactively improve their skills and execution to be able to progress to another level
  • Accountable for their part of the project budget and schedule
  • Direct Report: Project Supervisor
  • Execute all work in compliance with DPM standards, procedures and policies

  • Participate in any policies or procedures prescribed for the work place
  • Adhere to safety rules and regulations
  • Identify and report any unsafe acts

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary 3-year Electrical Engineering Technology diploma or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience designing electrical distribution systems
  • Detailed knowledge of codes and regulations governing electrical system design in Ontario
  • Ability to read schematics and interpret project scopes and drawings
  • Knowledge of distribution systems and their planning and operations
  • Excellent computer skills in software programs commonly used in an engineering office environment, including AutoCAD and/or Microstation and Microsoft Office
  • Strong interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with team members
  • Excellent project and time management skills to be able to handle multiple projects
